Eque, the art of listening - the making of!

E-mail PDF

The progress of composing & recording music is fantastic but can sometimes be very hard. Sometimes you have lack of inspiration, you don't know what do with the unfinished composition or even worse you'll never finish it. To be honest that's the worst which can happen. But all these things are nothing compared to the immense feeling of having created a composition which rocks!

The second part of the story is the arrangement and final recording of your composition. Think of selecting the right instruments, playing them as realistic as possible ( after all we've played all the tracks on keys, except for the guitar parts in Lovelight and Mare Anguis. They are real guitars), finding a right balance between them, and finally recording the composition. All these things we do ourselves.

Do more with less..

Now I here you all asking... "That's great but what sort of equipment are you guys using?" The answer to that question is as follows: The technology of today allows us to do very much with less. Of course you need nice quality sounds, but you don't need to have 20 different synthesizers to create something with quality. If you don't have any musical skills you can buy all synths in the world but you'll never create a good composition. So we're not going to brag with a setup list but keep in mind that all compositions in our archive were created with only 2 Roland JV-1080 Modules (one in The Hague, one in Hoorn, The Netherlands), both expanded with the boards: Pop, Session, Drums&Bass, Orchestral and Synth and offcourse a master keyboard for the input.

For recording we've used the SoundScape Digital multi-track harddisk recorder with the Audio-Toolbox and Wavemechanics plugins.

At the end of recording and mixing our CD "Emoceans" was finalized with the TC Works Finalizer plugin for Soundscape:

Where it's created?

Basically all our compositions are made at two locations one in The Hague and our main project studio in Hoorn, both cities are located in The Netherlands. During the process of composing music Hans & Felix use the Internet to exchange arrangements. The mixing, recording and finalizing for distribution (burning CD's etc.) is also done in Hoorn.
